Cornwall's mood swings with the Seasons
Spring offers tropical gardens, the first daffodils and camellias, primroses and bluebells along the hedgerows. The fresh smell of new growth and awakening wildlife on the cliffs and estuaries.
Summer brings a vibrant atmosphere to the streets with carnivals, art festivals and beach entertainment - Buccaneer Day every week in Looe will bring you face to face with pirates and their wenches and the Annual Trawler Race and Raft Race Days are looked forward to by everyone. There are secluded coves , yacht sailing and racing and water sports such as skiing and parascending.
Autumn returns to tranquility, peace and space and to a culture that has not yet disappeared. The autumn light and mists will stimulate the senses and is perfect for painting, photography and walking.
Winters mild climate is still attractive to visitors, the air is crisp and fresh, the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. A third of Cornwall is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The Christmas Lights in Looe and Polperro attract many visitors and the festive spirit during Christmas and New Year is renowned. The fancy dress costumes on New Year's Eve are often the result of a years planning by revelers in Looe.
Activities
Seasons is a magical place to unwind and rest or enjoy all sorts of holiday activities – walking by the sea or on the moors, riding, sailing, golf, fishing, bird-watching, to name but a few. Taking advantage of our splendid situation, we run weekend courses in Conversational German and Art (sketching and painting in water colours, acrylic and tempera), from Spring – Autumn, max. 6 in a group. Please enquire for details.
Diving - there are excellent P.A.D.I fully approved facilities in Looe.
Sailing - at Plymouth Sailing School or at nearby Siblyback lake which also has its own wind surfing school. The lake also offers good fishing facilities and day licenses can be obtained.
Golf - there are two golf courses within easy reach. St. Melion with the well known Jack Nicklaus course and the Looe Golf Club with its stunning cliff views from the 18th and 19th holes.
Walking - We are spoilt for choice. Sapphire seas, rolling green hills, wild flowers and ancient woodlands carpeted with bluebells, the untamed beauty of Bodmin Moor - this is the Cornwall Daphne Du Maurier brought to life in her books.
The Monkey Sanctuary - will leave lasting memories of the work done there to save the Woolly Monkeys.
Riding - there are several good riding stables in the vicinity.
Cycling - there are cycle pathways throughout Cornwall.
National Trust Houses and Gardens - the nearest being Lanhydrock House and Cotehele House and others all within approximately 30 minutes drive away.
For the less energetic why not take a trip on the scenic Looe Valley railway. Set alongside the old Looe/Liskeard canal with its historic Lock gates and local trading history. The railway has one of the steepest climbing gradients in the country giving a magnificent view of the viaduct and valley.
The little station at Causeland is just a short walk away and we highly recommend a trip on the railway as perhaps the best way to see the beautiful Looe Valley. So leave your car behind in the security of our grounds and enjoy a traffic-free day!
For the adventurers at heart - deep sea fishing.
